Schengen visa insurance when applying from Morocco

We found no accepted-insurer list from any Schengen mission in Morocco (checked August 31, 2026). Published instructions — Spain, Germany, Italy — require EUR 30,000 cover, Schengen-wide, for the whole stay; Spain's consulates also require cover for the visa's full validity.

Insurer lists published by consulates and visa centres in Morocco

Some Schengen missions publish a list of insurers whose certificates they accept. These are the lists we found for applications lodged here, each with its own date.

These are published insurance instructions, not accepted-insurer lists: none of them names an insurer, and the EU-harmonised supporting-documents list for Morocco omits insurance entirely — travel medical insurance is a uniform requirement of Article 15 of Regulation (EC) No 810/2009, checked by each mission against its own instruction text. France is missing for a stated reason: france-visas.gouv.fr and visas-fr.tlscontact.com blocked automated retrieval (HTTP 403) on August 31, 2026, so we do not reproduce France-specific wording we could not read. Every other entry was read directly at the linked source on August 31, 2026.

What applies specifically in Morocco

Local practice

Spain — the consulates general in Rabat and Casablanca publish an identical insurance clause: the policy must cover the whole intended stay, be valid for the entire Schengen area, carry at least EUR 30,000 and cover emergency medical assistance or emergency hospital care plus repatriation for medical reasons or death. Both sheets then add: 'El seguro médico debe ser válido para toda la duración del visado solicitado. Los seguros renovables serán considerados válidos sólo hasta la fecha de expiración.' — the insurance must be valid for the whole duration of the visa applied for, and renewable policies count only until their expiry date. Casablanca sheet marked last updated January 2025, Rabat sheet undated; both read August 31, 2026. Italy — the TLScontact Morocco document list for Italy (Casablanca, undated, read August 31, 2026) requires the insurance to 'Être valable pour l'espace Schengen', to 'Couvrir les frais médicaux et coûts de rapatriement à hauteur de 30,000 Euro minimum' and to 'Couvrir toute la durée de votre séjour'; documents in Arabic must be translated into Italian or French. Germany — the embassy in Rabat instructs 'Reisekrankenversicherung für die geplante Aufenthaltsdauer und für den gesamten Schengenraum i.H.v. min. 30.000 €' (travel health insurance for the planned duration and the whole Schengen area, minimum EUR 30,000) and states it works exclusively with TLScontact (page dated May 3, 2023, read August 31, 2026). Spain's centre operator BLS states applicants 'may get your travel insurance from any authorized insurance company' (Casablanca tourist-visa page, read August 31, 2026).

Where travellers buy

Ten policies in our matrix carry a verified verdict; on the eligibility wording we read on August 31, 2026, none bars Moroccan residents. Documents stating all six Article 15 requirements: AXA Schengen Low Cost, AXA Schengen Europe Travel (sold as Schengen Essential) and AXA Schengen Multi Trip (residence must lie outside the Schengen area and not be the UK or USA), Europ Assistance Schengen (no residence restriction stated; buyers aged 74 or younger at purchase), MondialCare Schengen (residence outside the Schengen area; a EUR 50 medical deductible is stated in its table) and schengen.care (concluded for anyone who is not a Polish citizen). Documents stating most requirements — read each row's notes before relying on one: Chapka Cap Schengen (buyer must not reside in the Schengen area), EKTA travel (its printed Europe-zone list omits Spain, where Moroccan applicants file through six BLS centres; its Worldwide zone is broader), DR-WALTER PROVISIT-VISUM (no overall sum insured printed) and WorldTrips Atlas Travel (USD-only limits, while the Morocco instructions state the minimum in euros). Europ Assistance is also the insurer BLS's Morocco centres link as their travel-insurance option (value-added-services page, read August 31, 2026). Moroccan insurers — Wafa Assurance, RMA, AXA Assurance Maroc, Sanlam and AtlantaSanad are the names that recur in local guidance — commonly market Schengen visa attestations: not verified by us. We have not read any Moroccan insurer's policy document, so none appears in our matrix.

Most-applied destinations

Moroccan residents lodged 606,800 Schengen visa applications in 2024, up from 591,401 in 2023 — the fourth-highest count of any country (European Commission, 'Visa applications reach 11.7 million', May 20, 2025). The Commission's consulate-level file (2024-schengen-visa-statistics-consulates_en.xlsx) splits those applications by mission; press summaries of that file put France first and Spain second for Morocco — we have not re-run those two totals ourselves. The application infrastructure points the same way: Spain operates six BLS centres in Morocco (Agadir, Casablanca, Nador, Rabat, Tangier, Tetouan — blsspainmorocco.com, read August 31, 2026), and Germany's embassy channels all applications through TLScontact (rabat.diplo.de, page dated May 3, 2023).

Checked on

Morocco has no accepted-insurer list from any Schengen mission that we could find — what it has is instruction texts, and they differ in one detail that matters at the counter. The Spanish consulates general in Rabat and Casablanca (Casablanca sheet last updated January 2025) require the medical insurance to be valid 'para toda la duración del visado solicitado' — for the whole duration of the visa applied for, not just the trip — and count renewable policies only until their expiry date. A certificate cut to your travel dates can therefore fall short of a multi-month visa's validity window. Read August 31, 2026.

The other published instructions track Article 15 of Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 without adding to it. The TLScontact document list for Italy in Casablanca asks for EUR 30,000 covering medical costs and repatriation, valid for the Schengen area and the whole stay, with Arabic documents translated into Italian or French; Germany's embassy in Rabat instructs the same minimum for the whole Schengen area and channels every application through TLScontact (page dated May 3, 2023). The EU-harmonised supporting-documents list for Morocco (August 2019) contains no insurance item at all: insurance is checked as a uniform requirement, not a local one.

No mission text we read restricts where the policy is bought. BLS, which runs Spain's six visa centres in Morocco, states insurance may come 'from any authorized insurance company' and links Europ Assistance as its own option — a policy whose document our matrix has verified. France is the gap: France-Visas and TLScontact France blocked automated retrieval on August 31, 2026, and we do not reproduce wording we could not read.

Questions from applicants in Morocco

Does any Schengen consulate in Morocco publish a list of approved insurance companies?

We found none, checked August 31, 2026. The requirement sheets of Spain's consulates in Rabat and Casablanca, Germany's embassy page and the TLScontact document list for Italy state the Article 15 requirements without naming an insurer, and the EU-harmonised document list for Morocco contains no insurance item. BLS, Spain's visa-centre operator, states cover may come 'from any authorized insurance company'.

Can you use a Moroccan insurer's attestation for a Schengen visa?

The published instructions set requirements — at least EUR 30,000, valid Schengen-wide, covering the whole stay — not the insurer's country, and BLS states insurance may come 'from any authorized insurance company' (read August 31, 2026). Moroccan insurers such as Wafa Assurance, RMA, AXA Assurance Maroc, Sanlam and AtlantaSanad commonly market Schengen attestations; we have not read any of their policy documents, so none carries a verdict in our matrix.

What does Spain require from the insurance if you apply in Rabat or Casablanca?

Cover for the whole intended stay, validity across the entire Schengen area, a minimum of EUR 30,000, and cover for emergency medical or hospital care and repatriation for medical reasons or death. Both consulates add: 'El seguro médico debe ser válido para toda la duración del visado solicitado. Los seguros renovables serán considerados válidos sólo hasta la fecha de expiración.' — valid for the visa's whole duration; renewable policies count only to expiry (Casablanca sheet dated January 2025, read August 31, 2026).

Which document-verified policies can Moroccan residents buy?

All ten policies with a verified verdict in our matrix are open to Moroccan residents on the eligibility wording we read on August 31, 2026: the three AXA Schengen products, Europ Assistance Schengen, MondialCare, schengen.care, Chapka Cap Schengen, EKTA travel, DR-WALTER PROVISIT-VISUM and WorldTrips Atlas Travel. The residence exclusions that do exist target Schengen, UK or US residents — not Morocco. Check each row for caveats such as EKTA's printed Europe zone omitting Spain and WorldTrips' USD-only limits.
