Schengen visa insurance when applying from Pakistan
German missions in Pakistan list 25 local insurers, Denmark's embassy 23; both restate EUR 30,000 cover valid across Schengen. Checked August 31, 2026.
Insurer lists published by consulates and visa centres in Pakistan
Some Schengen missions publish a list of insurers whose certificates they accept. These are the lists we found for applications lodged here, each with its own date.

Only the German and Danish lists could be read in full, both on August 31, 2026. Germany's page carries a liability disclaimer ('we can not accept any responsibility for inaccuracies contained herein'), not an exclusivity rule. Denmark's PDF prints no date — the filename carries 09082017 and the embassy's checklist page still linked it on the read date — cites 'article 15 of the Visa Code' by name, records Schengen assistance partners per insurer (International SOS for TPL Direct and Premier; MAPFRE for PICIC and Shaheen), and states: 'Applicants may use any insurance company, if this company can offer an insurance that fulfils the specified requirements.' The Italy row is indexed but unread: VFS Global returned HTTP 403 to our fetcher, so no insurer name from it is reproduced here. The Netherlands publishes no insurer list for Pakistan on netherlandsworldwide.nl, and we found none on the Greek GVCW Pakistan pages we read (both checked August 31, 2026).
What applies specifically in Pakistan
Local practice
Germany takes short-stay applications in-house, split by province: Embassy Islamabad for Islamabad Capital Territory, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab; Consulate General Karachi for Sindh and Balochistan (pakistan.diplo.de, read August 31, 2026). Denmark requires online filing and payment through ApplyVisa since July 1, 2019, with documents and biometrics handed in at Gerry's Visa Service Center — Park Road, Chattha Bakhtawar, Chak Shahzad in Islamabad, or the Danish Consulate General, Ocean Tower, Clifton, in Karachi; 'Application processing time counts from the time the application is delivered to the Embassy via Gerry's', and missing documents lead to refusal after 5 calendar days from hand-in at Gerry's (embassy checklist, filename dated January 10, 2024, read August 31, 2026). The same checklist requires the policy to state policy number, insured name, validity and benefits and to cover 'at least 30.000 € and COVID-19 treatment' — the COVID-19 line is Denmark's own addition, not an Article 15 requirement. Portugal: 'All visa applications must be submitted exclusively to the external service provider, Gerry's' (embassy page, last updated July 1, 2026). The Netherlands lodges via VFS Global in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore (netherlandsworldwide.nl, read August 31, 2026). Greece runs through Global Visa Center World's Pakistan operation (pk-gr.gvcworld.eu, live August 31, 2026).
Where travellers buy
Of the policies in our verified set (all documents read August 31, 2026), these state eligibility wording a resident of Pakistan meets: AXA Schengen Low Cost, AXA Schengen Europe Travel (sold as Schengen Essential) and AXA Schengen Multi Trip require residence outside the Schengen zone that is neither the UK nor the USA (each GTC §3.3); MondialCare requires 'tax and/or legal residence ... outside the Schengen area'; Chapka Cap Schengen asks the buyer to confirm being 'not a resident of a country or territory of the Schengen Area'; Europ Assistance Schengen (international English-language product, age 74 or younger at purchase) and schengen.care (concluded for anyone who is not a Polish citizen) record no residence bar that reaches Pakistan. Two more carry findspot gaps flagged on their check pages: EKTA's wording states neither Schengen-wide validity nor full-stay duration, and a policy bought outside the buyer's country of permanent residence starts cover on the fourth calendar day after purchase (§4.6) — relevant for urgent appointments; DR-WALTER PROVISIT-VISUM prints no overall sum insured. We read policy documents; we did not buy a policy from Pakistan. The Pakistani insurers on the German and Danish mission lists — Adamjee, EFU General, IGI, Askari General, Atlas, TPL, UBL Insurers, Shaheen, Pak-Qatar and others — are listed by those missions but their policy wordings are not verified by us against Article 15.
Most-applied destinations
Not established from primary data for Pakistan. The European Commission's statistics note of May 28, 2026 names 2025's five largest source countries — China, Türkiye, India, Russia, Morocco — and Pakistan is not among them; the note publishes no per-destination split for Pakistani applicants, and we did not parse the per-consulate workbook. What we did verify on August 31, 2026: Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal and Greece each maintain an active application channel in Pakistan, and an Embassy of Italy Islamabad insurer list is indexed on VFS Global's Islamabad pages.

Two Schengen missions in Pakistan publish their own insurer lists, and CoverMandate read both in full on August 31, 2026. The German missions' page 'List of health insurance companies in Pakistan', marked updated March 2022, names 25 Pakistani companies and requires 'a full Schengen travel insurance, covering for a minimum amount of 30 000 euros'. The Danish embassy's eight-page 'Approved Schengen Insurance Companies Pakistan' — no date printed, filename carrying 09082017, still linked from the embassy's checklist page — names 23 companies with per-company age limits and states: 'Applicants may use any insurance company, if this company can offer an insurance that fulfils the specified requirements.'
Denmark asks for one thing Article 15 does not: its Islamabad business-visit checklist, dated January 10, 2024 in the filename, requires insurance 'covering the cost of at least 30.000 € and COVID-19 treatment', stated with policy number, insured name, validity and benefits.
Lodging splits by destination. Germany takes short-stay applications in-house: Embassy Islamabad for Islamabad Capital Territory, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab; Consulate General Karachi for Sindh and Balochistan. Denmark files online through ApplyVisa since July 1, 2019, with papers and biometrics handed to Gerry's. Portugal states that applications 'must be submitted exclusively to the external service provider, Gerry's' (page updated July 1, 2026). The Netherlands uses VFS Global in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore; Greece runs through Global Visa Center World.
Not read by us: the Embassy of Italy Islamabad insurer list indexed on VFS Global's site — retrieval returned HTTP 403 — and France's lodging channel, which we could not verify at a primary source.
Questions from applicants in Pakistan
Which insurance companies do Schengen embassies in Pakistan accept?
Two missions publish their own lists, both read August 31, 2026: the German missions name 25 Pakistani health insurers 'complying with the Schengen requirements' (page marked updated March 2022), and the Danish embassy names 23 with per-company age limits. Denmark adds that applicants may use any insurance company whose policy fulfils the stated requirements — EUR 30,000 minimum, valid for all Schengen countries.
Does any Schengen mission in Pakistan ask for more than Article 15 requires?
Denmark does, on paper: the Islamabad embassy's business-visit checklist (filename dated January 10, 2024, read August 31, 2026) requires insurance 'covering the cost of at least 30.000 € and COVID-19 treatment', stating policy number, insured name, validity and benefits. COVID-19 treatment is not among the covers Article 15 of Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 names.
Can an applicant in Pakistan use an international online policy instead of a local insurer?
Denmark's list states applicants may use any company whose insurance fulfils the requirements (read August 31, 2026). In our verified set, the three AXA Schengen products, MondialCare and Chapka Cap Schengen condition eligibility on residence outside the Schengen Area — wording a resident of Pakistan meets — and Europ Assistance Schengen and schengen.care record no residence bar that reaches Pakistan. We read the policy documents; we did not buy a policy from Pakistan.
Where are Schengen visa applications from Pakistan lodged?
The channel follows the destination state, all checked August 31, 2026: Germany takes applications in-house at Embassy Islamabad or Consulate General Karachi, split by province; Denmark and Portugal route applications through Gerry's; the Netherlands uses VFS Global in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore; Greece uses Global Visa Center World. France's channel we could not verify at a primary source.
