Schengen visa insurance when applying from United Arab Emirates

Checked August 31, 2026: no Schengen mission in the UAE publishes a named-insurer list on the pages we could reach. Germany's Dubai consulate sets EUR 30,000 plus a Schengen-office rule for multiple-entry visas; Spain's BLS channel offers Europ Assistance.

Insurer lists published by consulates and visa centres in United Arab Emirates

Some Schengen missions publish a list of insurers whose certificates they accept. These are the lists we found for applications lodged here, each with its own date.

These are insurance instructions, not acceptance lists. On every mission page we could reach on August 31, 2026, no insurance company is named as approved for UAE applicants — the pattern known from India, where missions publish accepted-insurer PDFs, has no UAE counterpart we could verify. The closest thing is Spain's channel, where BLS International offers Europ Assistance's Schengen product under a BLS partner code. VFS Global's UAE pages (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Czechia, Bulgaria), TLScontact's France site, france-visas.gouv.fr and the Swiss eda.admin.ch document page refused automated retrieval on the check date (HTTP 403); a list published only behind those blocks would not appear here. The Czech row is a 2017 page kept in the embassy's site archive; treat it as historical.

What applies specifically in United Arab Emirates

Local practice

For multiple-entry visas the German Consulate Dubai requires a signed insurance declaration (dated November 29, 2023): minimum cover EUR 30,000 per person, valid in all Schengen states for at least the trip's duration, covering 'the cost of possible repatriation in the event of illness, urgent medical treatment and/or emergency hospital treatment' — and 'The insurance company must have an office in a Schengen state, Switzerland or in Liechtenstein'. The same consulate's tourism checklist (November 29, 2023) requires cover 'Valid for the entire duration of the requested visa and for all Schengen countries', 'Minimum coverage 30,000 € and repatriation.', requires the policy conditions 'either on insurance document or on separate confirmation letter', and states 'Medical insurances of credit cards are not accepted'. Germany lodges applications 'exclusively' through VFS Global in Abu Dhabi and Dubai; Austria has 'outsourced its visa services' to the same two VFS centers; the Netherlands directs applicants to 'the VFS Global application centre in Abu Dhabi or Dubai' and accepts 'the first page of your insurance policy (policy schedule)' as proof. Spain's channel, BLS International, calls the certificate 'a mandatory requirement for applicants travelling to Spain'. All pages read August 31, 2026.

Where travellers buy

None of the policies verified on this site excludes United Arab Emirates residents in its published eligibility clauses (all documents read August 31, 2026). AXA Schengen Low Cost, Essential (sold at the Europe Travel URL) and Multi Trip require residence outside the Schengen area and bar only UK and US residence (General Terms & Conditions July 2026, p. 10). Europ Assistance Schengen states no residence restriction and caps purchase at age 74 — it is also the product Spain's BLS UAE channel links. MondialCare requires 'tax and/or legal residence ... outside the Schengen area'. schengen.care is concluded for Foreigners, defined as anyone who is not a Polish citizen. Chapka Cap Schengen asks buyers to confirm 'You are not a resident of a country or territory of the Schengen Area'. DR-WALTER PROVISIT-VISUM (risk carrier Würzburger Versicherungs-AG, Germany) covers visitors and excludes the habitual-residence country from cover. EKTA sells worldwide, but its wording states neither Schengen-wide validity nor full-stay cover — see that row's notes. UAE-domiciled insurers such as GIG Gulf and Allianz's UAE arm (underwriter Alliance Insurance Company P.S.C) market Schengen-compliant travel products locally and are commonly listed in UAE commercial roundups; their policy documents are not verified by us. These are the documents' eligibility statements; we have not tested a purchase from a UAE address.

Most-applied destinations

2024, applications lodged in the UAE (260,229 in total): Germany 32,956, Netherlands 29,473, France 28,778, Switzerland 27,148, Spain 24,799 — the five largest recipients. Figures are SchengenVisaInfo's compilation of European Commission consulate-level data, as reported by Khaleej Times on May 25, 2025. The Commission's own 2024 'Visa statistics for consulates' workbook, linked from home-affairs.ec.europa.eu, is the underlying source; we could not open the spreadsheet from this environment.

Schengen missions in the United Arab Emirates publish insurance instructions, not insurer lists. On every mission page we could reach on August 31, 2026, no insurance company is named as approved for UAE applicants. The closest thing to a named insurer sits in Spain's channel: BLS International, 'Official partner of Embassy of Spain in UAE', calls the travel insurance certificate 'a mandatory requirement' and links Europ Assistance's Schengen product under a BLS partner code.

The most specific published instruction comes from the German Consulate Dubai. Its tourism checklist (November 29, 2023) requires cover 'Valid for the entire duration of the requested visa and for all Schengen countries', 'Minimum coverage 30,000 € and repatriation.', and adds that 'Medical insurances of credit cards are not accepted'. For multiple-entry visas the same consulate requires a signed declaration (November 29, 2023) stating that the insurance company 'must have an office in a Schengen state, Switzerland or in Liechtenstein'.

Applications route through external providers: Germany works 'exclusively' with VFS Global in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Austria has 'outsourced its visa services' to the same two centers, and the Netherlands sends applicants to 'the VFS Global application centre in Abu Dhabi or Dubai' (all read August 31, 2026). VFS Global's own UAE pages and TLScontact's France site refused automated retrieval on the check date, so instructions published only there are not reproduced on this page. UAE-domiciled insurers such as GIG Gulf and Allianz's UAE arm market Schengen-compliant travel products locally; their policy documents are not verified by us.

Questions from applicants in United Arab Emirates

Where do you lodge a Schengen visa application in the United Arab Emirates?

Through the provider each mission appoints. Germany works 'exclusively' with VFS Global in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Austria has 'outsourced its visa services' to the same two VFS centers, the Netherlands directs applicants to 'the VFS Global application centre in Abu Dhabi or Dubai', and Spain's channel is BLS International (all mission pages read August 31, 2026). France's provider pages refused automated retrieval on the check date, so this page does not reproduce them.

Does any Schengen mission in the UAE publish a list of approved insurers?

Not on any page we could reach on August 31, 2026. The German, Dutch, Austrian and Czech mission pages name no insurance companies; Spain's BLS channel offers Europ Assistance's Schengen product as an optional service but publishes no acceptance list. VFS Global's UAE pages and TLScontact's France site blocked automated retrieval, so a list published only there would not appear here.

What insurance does the German Consulate Dubai require for a multiple-entry visa?

A signed Declaration on Travel and Health Insurance (dated November 29, 2023): minimum cover of EUR 30,000 per person, validity in all Schengen states for at least the trip's duration, cover for 'the cost of possible repatriation in the event of illness, urgent medical treatment and/or emergency hospital treatment', and an insurance company that 'must have an office in a Schengen state, Switzerland or in Liechtenstein' (read August 31, 2026).

Can UAE residents buy the policies verified on this site?

The published eligibility clauses exclude none of them for UAE residents (documents read August 31, 2026). AXA's three Schengen products bar only UK and US residence; MondialCare and Chapka require residence outside the Schengen area; schengen.care is open to anyone who is not a Polish citizen; Europ Assistance states no residence restriction. We have not tested a purchase from a UAE address.
