Schengen visa insurance when applying from Philippines
Schengen posts in Manila share one insurer list — 25 Philippine companies in the September 9, 2024 edition, verified August 31, 2026 — which demands EUR 30,000, cashless claim settlement and a named re-insurer.
Insurer lists published by consulates and visa centres in Philippines
Some Schengen missions publish a list of insurers whose certificates they accept. These are the lists we found for applications lodged here, each with its own date.
| Destination | Issuing authority | List date | Named insurers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | Authority:German Embassy Manila, linked as 'Recommended List of Insurance Companies' | List date:September 9, 2024 | Named insurers:25 — incl. Malayan, Pacific Cross, Standard Insurance, Pioneer, Oona (formerly MAPFRE Insular), AXA Philippines, BPI MS, Chubb |
| Italy | Authority:VFS Global one-pager for Italy applications in the Philippines | List date:December 31, 2023 | Named insurers:24 — same shared list one edition earlier; MAPFRE Insular and Oona still separate entries, no BPI MS or Chubb |
| Greece | Authority:Global Visa Center World (GVCW), Greece applications from the Philippines | List date:October 20, 2022 as printed (file name says 08.2024) | Named insurers:20 — oldest verified edition; later editions add Oona, Allied Bankers, Prudential Guarantee and Visayan Surety |
One list, three verified editions. The three files above print the same title — 'List of Schengen Insurance Companies in the Philippines' — the same structure and the same six-point requirements block, growing from 20 companies (October 20, 2022) to 24 (December 31, 2023) to 25 (September 9, 2024); the newest edition adds BPI MS Insurance and Chubb and merges two earlier entries into 'Oona (formerly MAPFRE Insular)'. One company carries a printed condition in every edition: 'MAA General Assurance Phils Inc (premium coverage plan only)'. The requirements block moved from 'all 26 Schengen member states' (2022 and 2023 editions) to 'all 29 Schengen member states' (September 2024) — the December 2023 edition was already behind the January 2023 accession when it was dated. None of the three PDFs prints an issuing authority, letterhead or signature; attribution here is by the mission or application center that publishes each file, all read in full on August 31, 2026. The Netherlands publishes no insurer list on its Philippines instructions page (netherlandsworldwide.nl, read August 31, 2026 — the word insurance does not appear there). Three more copies could not be opened on August 31, 2026: the Switzerland and Austria one-pagers on visa.vfsglobal.com return HTTP 403 and the list PDF on norway.no fails DNS; search-result titles suggest they are further editions of the same document, which we do not reproduce unverified.
What applies specifically in Philippines
Local practice
Germany (manila.diplo.de Schengen visas page, read August 31, 2026, quotes confirmed on two fetches): proof of travel health insurance is required in every visa category; the embassy links the September 9, 2024 list as 'Recommended List of Insurance Companies' under the sentence 'For a list of companies which meet the minimum requirements, please see here:', adds 'If you choose a travel insurance from a different company, the insurance documents must show that all the listed requirements are met.', and states 'Your application must be submitted personally at VFS Global in Manila or Cebu.' Greece (GVCW visa information for the Philippines, read August 31, 2026, quotes confirmed on two fetches): 'The minimum coverage shall be EUR 30,000 (denominated in Euros).' and 'The insurance company must have a representative office in European Union countries.' The Netherlands (netherlandsworldwide.nl Philippines page, read August 31, 2026): 'To apply for a Schengen visa in the Philippines, go to the VFS Global application centre in Cebu or Makati.' — the page publishes application instructions and no insurer list. The list's own requirements block, identical in all three verified editions (read August 31, 2026), adds points found in no EU regulation: treatment for illness or accident 'including Covid 19', coverage of 'a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)' as printed, the Schengen member states 'listed on the policy', the re-insurer named in the policy with a toll-free number, and cashless claim settlement — 'no company working on reimbursement basis will be accepted. Cashless settlements only'.
Where travellers buy
Two pools, one distinction. On the Manila lists: the September 9, 2024 edition names 25 Philippine-market companies — Malayan Insurance, Pacific Cross, Standard Insurance, Pioneer Insurance, Oona (formerly MAPFRE Insular) and AXA Philippines among them; their policy wordings are not in our matrix, so we have verified none of their documents. In our matrix, on no verified Manila edition: the nine policies verified on this site state buyer eligibility that includes Philippine residence — the three AXA Schengen products bar only UK and US residence, with Essential also requiring residence outside the Schengen zone (General Terms & Conditions July 2026, read August 31, 2026); Europ Assistance Schengen sets an age cap of 74 and no residence bar; MondialCare and Chapka Cap Schengen require residence outside the Schengen Area; schengen.care is concluded for non-Polish citizens; DR-WALTER PROVISIT-VISUM and EKTA print no Philippine exclusion (all read August 31, 2026; caveats per policy page). Name collision to note: AXA Philippines on the Manila list (axa.com.ph) is a different company from AXA Schengen's underwriter Inter Partner Assistance S.A., Brussels. Our matrix does not track the list's cashless-settlement and named-re-insurer points; whether a post applying the list accepts an unlisted policy is that post's decision — Germany's published rule is that the documents must show all listed requirements met.
Most-applied destinations
Not compiled from the primary dataset yet. Per-consulate 2024 application counts for the posts in the Philippines sit in the European Commission's file 2024-schengen-visa-statistics-consulates_en.xlsx (statistics page read August 31, 2026; file not parsed in this run); across all consulates the Commission reports more than 11.7 million short-stay applications in 2024 (Commission news item of May 20, 2025, read August 31, 2026). Third-party compilations rank the Netherlands first for applications lodged from the Philippines; the pages carrying those counts blocked retrieval on August 31, 2026, so we do not reproduce their figures.

Checked on
What an applicant in the Philippines faces that Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 never mentions: a shared 'List of Schengen Insurance Companies in the Philippines' circulating among the Schengen missions in Manila. We verified three dated editions at the source on August 31, 2026 — 20 companies as of October 20, 2022 (served by GVCW for Greece applications), 24 as of December 31, 2023 (VFS Global's one-pager for Italy) and 25 as of September 9, 2024, hosted by the German Embassy Manila, which links it as its 'Recommended List of Insurance Companies'.
All three editions carry the same six-point requirements block. Beyond the EUR 30,000 of Article 15(3) — printed as 'a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)' — it demands that the policy list the Schengen states, name a re-insurer with a toll-free number, name Covid-19, and settle claims without upfront payment: 'no company working on reimbursement basis will be accepted. Cashless settlements only'. None of those points appears in the Visa Code.
Where files are lodged: Germany states applications are 'submitted personally at VFS Global in Manila or Cebu'; the Dutch instructions say 'go to the VFS Global application centre in Cebu or Makati'; Greece runs through GVCW, which adds that the insurer 'must have a representative office in European Union countries' (all read August 31, 2026).
The European online policies verified on this site — the AXA Schengen products, Europ Assistance Schengen and the six others — state buyer eligibility that includes Philippine residence, but none appears on any verified Manila edition. Germany's published rule for that case: the policy documents themselves must show every listed requirement met.
Questions from applicants in Philippines
Which insurance companies do the Schengen embassies in Manila accept?
The missions circulate a shared 'List of Schengen Insurance Companies in the Philippines'. The newest edition we verified — hosted by the German Embassy Manila, dated September 9, 2024 — names 25 Philippine companies, among them Malayan Insurance, Pacific Cross, Standard Insurance, Pioneer, Oona and AXA Philippines. The German embassy presents it as a recommended list: with a different company, the insurance documents must show that all the listed requirements are met (read August 31, 2026).
Do Manila posts require more than the EUR 30,000 of Article 15?
The circulating list does. On top of coverage of 'a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)' — as printed — it requires the Schengen member states listed on the policy, a named re-insurer with a toll-free number, Covid-19 included, and cashless claim settlement: 'no company working on reimbursement basis will be accepted'. None of those points appears in Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 (list editions of October 20, 2022, December 31, 2023 and September 9, 2024, all read August 31, 2026).
Can a Philippine resident buy a European online Schengen policy such as AXA Schengen?
The policy documents say yes: AXA Schengen's July 2026 conditions bar only UK and US residence, and none of the nine policies verified on this site excludes Philippine residence — separate conditions still apply, such as Europ Assistance's age cap of 74 (all read August 31, 2026). But none of those products appears on any Manila list edition we verified, and AXA Philippines on that list is a different company from AXA Schengen's underwriter Inter Partner Assistance S.A. At a post applying the list, an unlisted policy's documents must show every listed requirement met, including cashless settlement.
Where do you lodge a Schengen visa application in the Philippines?
It depends on the destination state. Germany: 'submitted personally at VFS Global in Manila or Cebu' (manila.diplo.de, read August 31, 2026). The Netherlands: 'go to the VFS Global application centre in Cebu or Makati' (netherlandsworldwide.nl, read August 31, 2026). Greece: through Global Visa Center World, which also requires the insurer to have 'a representative office in European Union countries' (ph-gr.gvcworld.eu, read August 31, 2026).
